Yet another holiday season is upon the virtual landscape, and Second Life residents are preparing in a variety of ways. Additionally, Linden Lab has brought Winterfest back for another year.

Winterfest 2010, a week-long tribute to wintertime activities in Second Life, runs through December 18.  On Dec. 14, several live music events are scheduled. Jean Munro performs at 2 pm SLT, while Keiko Takamura will entertain at 5 pm, with The Follow rounding out the day at 6pm.

The 6th annual Second Life Community Convention (SLCC) will take place in Boston, August 13-15, at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel and Towers, with a new organizing committee at the helm. AvaCon, Inc. has taken over the reins for the convention with a team experienced in the production of conferences and conventions.

The date July 24th was chosen as the date for International Femdom Day as a day for celebrating dominant women - 7/24 - seven days a week and 24 hours a day. There are real life celebrations going on from St. Louis and New York to Berlin and beyond. The Femdom Community in SL group is bringing the whole event virtual for those who do not have the opportunity for a RL venue.

Seven years is an impressive age for any online world, when many virtual worlds and MMORPG's fall by the wayside well before that age.

This week, Second Life reached that age and celebrated with its annual birthday sims, events and more.

The party was run over just a single week, compared to previous years two, but as always, it is themed.

This year's theme was "Unexpected Collaborations," which leaves a lot to the imagination.

Mr. and Ms. VR International, Dragonbird Amiot and Laetitia Vella, were crowned on April 16, 2010 at the culmination of the finals for the second annual competition Sponsored by VR Style Magazine, Silver Star Modeling Agency and N.A.I.L. Productions.

The Sunrise Manse (SRM) II Art Gallery in Diamond Serenity Caye (215, 202, 1201) celebrated its one year anniversary on April 12 with a grand-reopening featuring the art of emerging and established First Life artists.  The exhibit will continue at the gallery through May 12.

Linden Lab is the defendant in yet another lawsuit, filed on April 15 by plaintiffs Carl Evans, Donald Spencer, Valerie Spencer and Cindy Carter, who allege that LL "knowingly offered to sell the class members virtual land and the ability to acquire ownership rights in virtual property and then took the plaintiffs' property and did not honor the owners' rights in their property."

The American Cancer Society's signature fundraising event Relay For Life has been running for a month in Second Life and has already raised nearly a quarter of its US$300,000 target, but this is no time to get complacent! We have some great events scheduled over the coming days, so come on over and support the RFL of SL teams as they raise money to help find a cure for cancer. Thousands of Second Life residents and creators are coming together to support the American Cancer Society's vision of a world without cancer from April 19 to April 25. Friends Fighting Cancer (FFC) have transformed nine sims of Second Life into a fantasy wonderland: the Fantasy Faire 2010 to benefit Relay for Life of Second Life (RFL of SL).

The Fantasy Faire 2010 is the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, roleplayers and performers in the virtual world.

The third annual Day of Remembrance in Second Life will be recognized on April 17 with a variety of events.

During the day, there will be a small ceremony at Linden Memorial park, where Linden Lab will reveal the latest memorial to the park, while the group "Remembering our Friends" will also host a series of events.

Second Life residents now have the opportunity to discover architectural delight from the totally unique (to SL) dragonfly-winged structure that is Royal Thai Gallery.

Built on a bias (no square corners and not along compass lines), the two, 200 plus meters long and 20 meters wide halls divide into four galleries to afford maximum display. Along with soaring vistas to its full 20 meters height, the halls lead us to the trompe l'oeil wing-tip ends that appear fully open to the colorful magnolia blossoms and seascape outdoors.

Relay For Life of Second Life (RFL of SL) is about to hit the grid. A new event board makes it easier than ever to list, promote, and discover events during the 16 weeks of fundraising. The RFL of SL 2010 campaign kicks off March 13.

Some of the events to look out for during the campaign are races, DJ parties, live music marathons, fashion shows and rodeos. A popular event is "Bid Me Bald." For every L$5,000 a team member raises, she or he must go bald for one day.
