SLURL: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Info%20Island/62/114/33 Come into Second Life on Tuesday, March 23 to Marilyn Johnson talk about her witty new book, This Book Is Overdue: How Librarians and Cybrarians Can Save Us All. This is your opportunity to talk with Marilyn Johnson. Marilyn explores and explodes the myths of what librarians are really like--whether they are in RL or SL. (She has a whole chapter just on virtual world librarians.)
If you have not yet explored Second Life, check out the free Introduction to Second Life webinars for SLA members at http://www.sla.org/content/learn/members/webinars/secondlife.cfm
Who are librarians? What are librarians? Are they/we necessary in the age of Digitization, its all on the Internet, and the Google Search Box? Come hear Marilyn discuss her findings on librarians who stand up for patron's privacy rights when confronted by the Patriot Act, write blogs with forthright titles, and go boldly where most patrons fear to tread.
Bio:Marilyn Johnson is the author of two books: This Book Is Overdue! about librarians and archivists in the digital age and The Dead Beat, about the art of obituaries and obituary writers. She is a former editor and staff writer for Life and other magazines, and lives with her family in New York.
" I was on SL actively from fall 2007 to (I think, more or less) spring 2009. Really took a lot of grief from editors (and some readers) for including SL chapter, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
That's where it's happening!" Her avatar is Marilena Basevi

In the winter of 1951, a storyteller, the last practitioner of an honored, centuries-old tradition, arrives at the home of the nine-year-old Ronan O'Mara in the Irish countryside. For three wonderful evenings, the old gentleman enthralls his assembled audience with narratives of foolish kings, fabled saints, and Ireland's enduring accomplishments. These nights change young Ronan forever, setting him on a years-long pursuit of the elusive, itinerant storyteller and the glorious tales that are no less than the saga of his tenacious and extraordinary isle. Tonight Shandon concludes the story of the Architect of Newgrange and the trials and tribulations his staff of men and women went through to finish their project.
'Ireland - a novel' is the work from Frank Delaney, Shandon will share some portions of this marvelous novel with you, in voice.

"Who is the silent princess? And why should it be a punishment to fall in love with her?" Storyteller Gilbert Sapwood returns to CDS to help us open Al Qantara Library to the SL public. He will retell the story of the classic Turkish folktale, "The Silent Princess," along with other short tales from the Middle East, and hopefully answer these questions. "The Silent Princess" was popularized by the Scots man of letters, Andrew Lang in, "Olive Fairy Book" (1907). The tale was also included in "Forty-four Turkish Fairy Tales"(1913), by Ignácz Kúnos, with illustrations by Willy Pogany, and different variations of the tale are found in many other folktale collections.
Gilbert Sapwood is a storyteller, traveler and collector of tales. He tells stories from the British Isles, Ireland and from his island Canadian home, stories from the Brothers Grimm, and tales from the folklore of the Good People. He is the founder of the Storytelling Guild of Second Life. Gilbert is real life professional storyteller, folklorist and author Dale Jarvis http://www.dalejarvis.ca
