Sock Hop heralds grand opening of 50's sim
The gymnasium of J. Fin High School doubled as the dance floor for the event, alive with jitterbugs, some wearing poodle skirts, others impersonating their favorite 50's icons, like Sandy from 'Grease' fame, the rebellious James Dean and, of course, the 'King' himself.
Performer Tamra Sands started things off with a bang by singing an entire set of 50's pop favorites while the audience sang along and cheered. Next up, the amazingly talented Brixton Canning gave his rendition of a medley of Elvis' top hits while adding authenticity by dressing like the iconic rock star.
Offered for sale throughout J. Fin High School are 50's retro fashions for men and women as well as furniture, lighting, bathroom fixtures and appliances of the era.
Co-Owner/Co-Creator of the sim, Nil McCallen, was inspired to create a 50's sim by his friend Franzesco Biedermann. Biedermann, at the time, had a 50's club called Magic Moon and had a great love for rock and the fifties era. McCallen did some early collaboration with Biedermann, creating some 50's content.
McCallen added, "I always liked the 50's, especially the American 50's." McCallen, a German, said, "The German 50's had a totally different look. The petticoats, the clothing design and unique music style made me fall in love with that era." He has continued to create with Biedermann and another business partner, Irina Blackadder, thus the name of 'Fin' High School representing the design team of Franzesco, Irina and Nil.
A packed schedule of regular events is planned including an upcoming 1950 Prom Night and a Sock Hop especially for Tinys. Musical concerts like "Grease" are on the agenda, and a special Big Band Swing Concert will be an event not to be missed. Game nights will feature BINGO and Primtionary, and building classes will be conducted as well.
McCallen spoke of the future for the sim when he said, "We plan to have a well going 50's community here with people who like this era and play a part in it. Everyone who wants to be a part of our community is very welcome to join the FIN 'Relive the fifties' Group."
In addition to the 50's content offered at Jet Lag, McCallen added, "The Jet Lag sim also has shopping venues of three talented designers: JohnnyD Posthorn's Juice Clothing; Rughster Faukland's menswear; and Kyoto Ying's Kyoto Textures."
