SRM Gallery celebrates grand reopening
The Sunrise Manse (SRM) II Art Gallery in Diamond Serenity Caye (215, 202, 1201) celebrated its one year anniversary on April 12 with a grand-reopening featuring the art of emerging and established First Life artists. The exhibit will continue at the gallery through May 12.
Founder and Director of the Gallery and Museum Complex, Indea Vaher, organized the exhibit and founded the SRM complex to explore a variety of historical themes with emphasis on the Gullah/Creole culture. Vaher's own art work is exhibited in a historic setting at the SRM I Gallery while her intention for the SRM II Gallery is to showcase contemporary artworks in a modern theme featuring emerging and established artists on a regular basis.
Vaher's real life work has been recognized as a genuine illustration of the history and traditions of African American southern culture. She is well known for her brilliant coloring, intricate human and landscape forms, and themes that represent life in South Carolina's Sea Island region and the bayous of Louisiana. A self-taught mixed media artist and instructor, Vaher has received honors and awards from many organizations, and she has exhibited across the nation. Her work has appeared in many national publications and can be found in private collections all over the world.
Guests at the well attended exhibit were treated to a diversity of styles and topics by the tremendously talented array of artists.
The Meso-Nesia Collection of artist Miles Barbasz was principally inspired by both the seen and unseen powers reflected in the aesthetic structures of indigenous and modern ethnic communities. His hope is to "Stir viewers in the more remote reaches of their consciousness provoking deeper awareness of shared humanity and all its beauty, passion, terror, pain and mystery."
Miles Eleventhaur (a.k.a. GWiz) is a DJ, self-proclaimed jazzologist and musician who has performed, toured and recorded in meatspace with entertainment greats such as Roberta Flack, Chaka Khan, as well as Ashford and Simpson, to name a few. His caricature portraits of celebrities are an interesting addition to the collection, not to be missed.
Several other splendid artists' works are on display at the exhibit through May 12. To obtain more information or to schedule a tour, contact Indea Vaher.
